Vermate and Thermal Mud heal Pyoderma
The story of Avor, and one you don’t want to glance over as it really is quite a remarkable story.
Avor was diagnosed with Pyoderma in May 2024 (literally means pus in the skin caused by ongoing bacterial infections). A month after, the vet said that it had possibly developed into cancer and she might have to be put down if it gets worse, as “nothing helps for it.” The vet was wrong.
Six months later after daily Vermate and Thermal Mud treatment, she’s well and healed. Bernice Botes, the lady who refused to give up on her dog shared her story with us.
“Avor was born with a very light (white) and thin coat. The battle to apply sunscreen and/or cream daily was real. As soon as she saw me with a bottle, she ran for her life. In the beginning, this was just to prevent her from sunburn and to keep her skin moist. Late last year, I noted bald patches as her hair started falling out, with her light pink skin showing more and more. I took her to the vet, who started treating her for Pyoderma as her whole body and all 4 legs showed symptoms.
This soon became a monthly visit as it got worse, and they prescribed Cytopoint Injections monthly, and Rilexine 600mg tabs daily for a year. Cortisone injections were also given when it was really bad. Early in May, I took her to the vet again for her monthly visit. As I entered the Vet Practice, another client took one look at Avor and asked me if she had Pyoderma.
Avor was bleeding so much from the sores on her body, that I had to wrap her in a towel, and I tried to clean up after her as we walked in and waited for the vet. I could hardly touch her; her body was so sore. I didn’t see any real improvement while spending thousands of rands a month. The lady told me that she also had a white bullterrier and that NOTHING helps for Pyoderma. She eventually had to put her down. Not what I was expecting, and least of all, I didn’t appreciate how she directly implied that Avor would end up being euthanized.
I knew my dog was sore, her body warm to the touch, she stopped being playful but still ate. She was only 3 years old; how could I just give up on her? I tried everything I could think of, mixing my own creams, over the counter creams, changing her food and diet, colloidal silver, golden paste, bathing her more often with shampoo that the vet gave, you name it – I did it. I started looking for alternatives as I refused to give up on my dog and her health. A friend of mine does a lot of research as they sell herbal remedies on the equine side. She gave me a lot of insight from her side and suggested some herbal mixes to try. The idea of trying herbal remedies made me think of Thermal Mud.
I started using Thermal Mud and Vermate for my horses roughly 4 years ago. It then struck me to try Thermal Mud on her sores. I started to apply it twice daily, every morning and evening, on her big open bleeding wounds. This was on the 21st of May. Avor quickly learned that I tried to help her and I also think she felt a relief to her skin. By the 30th of May, I saw I HUGE improvement in her open wounds! I was shocked but so happy! I honestly almost couldn’t believe my eyes. The gaping open wounds started to heal and close.
On the 21st of June, the one open gaping wound was nearly gone. Her body temperature felt normal again, and my dog had a massive turnaround regarding her personality. She started playing again and was just happy and a crazy Bullie. Even the one vet at the Practice could not believe the effect the Thermal Mud had on Avor’s skin.
To this day, I still apply it once daily. To say I am so satisfied with TM is an understatement. I have now added Vermate to her food daily as well. Her body still gets bumps every now and then, but once I apply the Mud, it virtually flattens overnight. Some of the areas are still hairless, but I know she feels A LOT better than she did. TM and Vemate are now part of our Daily Program to keep Avor happy and healthy.”
